Last weekend I had the pleasure of shooting a family session for one of my past brides, Meredith. As a special gift to her mother and grandmother she and her sister, Allison, set up the session for a fun afternoon! It just so happened to be Allison’s birthday so excitement was in the air. All four of these amazing women share a humor that is genuine and sincere. Their connections with each other exemplify the meaning of family and I’m so glad I got to share in such a special day!

Last weekend I had the pleasure of catching up with a few of my favorite people, Rosie,Rob and sweet baby Marlee. Now that Marlee is 9 months old her little personality is just brimming with sweetness and curiosity! I have to say she has this calmness to her that is just refreshing to be around. She also was generous with her smiles, which makes a photographer oh so happy! We strolled around the zoo gardens and enjoyed the crisp fall breeze while we took in all the new additions. Last weekend I had the pleasure of shooting a maternity/family session in Fort George Island, FL. It was such a gorgeous day and we had the pleasure of having some beautiful sunlight to play around in. I have to say, Little Miss Olivia stole the show, her little personality was oh so adorable and frankly, she cracked me up! Lucky for me, Abbey gave up on studio photography with a little one because Olivia is a free spirit! Her little face sparkled anytime Abbey and Carl swing her in the air which was awesome to capture in pictures. Abbey is expecting another little girl and I have no doubt Olivia will lead the way to a fun-filled childhood, after all, what’s better than having a big sister that gives her kisses on cue!

A couple of weekends ago I had the distinct pleasure of shooting Maile and Kris’s wedding at The Hyatt in downtown Jacksonville. The day turned out to be the perfect day for a wedding! The weather was clear and the air was crisp. When I showed up at the bridal suit, the girls were all buzzing around and getting Maile ready for her big day. Maile was surrounded by her sisters and best friend while she put on her dress. We went downstairs and took the girls’ pictures outside overlooking the river.
Maile and Kris chose to have a special meeting before the ceremony, their “First Look”. As Maile was nearing Kris, I could see he could hardly wait to turn around to meet her eyes. The look on their faces was priceless!
The ceremony was breath-taking, overlooking the St. John’s river and Main Street bridge. Maile and Kris wrote their own vows for each other, so sweet…and so kind. For the cocktail hour they moved to another level of the Hyatt, still overlooking the city and it’s beautiful skyline.
The night was magical and love was all around. The father-daughter dance was one of the most special dances I had the honor of witnessing. When I took a moment to wipe the tears from my eyes I glanced around to see I wasn’t the only one looking for a tissue. I chose not to put those pictures on the blog because they were so emotional and I wanted to keep those moments especially for Maile.
Maile and Kris, you two were meant for each other! I thoroughly enjoyed telling your story, and am so grateful you chose me to capture your memories.

Introducing Ms. Alena, one of Sandalwood’s class of 2011! A few weeks ago, I took Alena out for her senior pictures. Not only is she a natural beauty, as you will see, she has a beautiful heart as well. Alena is the real deal, which seems to be a rarity nowadays. It’s refreshing to see a teenage girl confident in her intelligence and confident in where she’s headed in life. She’s comfortable in her own skin and doesn’t care who sees her being goofy. She can laugh at herself and, thankfully, she can laugh with my son.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of hanging out with Felicia and her beautiful daughter, Skylar. The weather was so beautiful, it made for a fantastic day of girl-time! Watching these two interact tugged at my heart-strings to say the least. There’s something so special about the bond between a mother and a daughter that just brings a smile to my face. That day when I looked into Sky’s eyes all I saw was love…pure love for her mother and friend.
I thought back to the special times I had with my mom, just the two of us, and I remember that feeling like it was yesterday….a feeling of comfort, security and fun. A feeling of belonging. Acceptance. Unconditional love.
Sometimes when women grow up and become a mom themselves they think they can do better. They say affirmations like “they are nothing like their mom”, that they won’t do this or they won’t do that…but then in a split second life changes….. There’s a clarity. A certain scent, a few familiar words, girly giggles that brings you back to your 10 year old self…to that girl that looked at her mom with awe and amazement at how brilliant she was….how excited she was just to have all of her mom’s attention in that moment. It’s times such as these that I am truly grateful for the type of mom that I have. Growing up she let me be me and never tried to hold me back, she always supported me and made me think I could do anything I put my heart into. She made me give her hugs when I didn’t feel like it, she made me laugh when I felt like crying and she always made me feel smarter than I really was. With as many differences that we have we have just as many similarities…similarities of which I am proud of.
My hope is that one day when Sky looks back on these photos she remembers those moments with clarity. I hope she remembers the warmth of the sun, the salty air and the joy that she had that afternoon….and no matter what other things life throws at her for those 2 hours she was on top of the world with a knowing that no one else could ever love her as much as her mom does.

A couple of weekends ago I had the pleasure of shooting Rachel and Craig’s wedding at Palm Valley Gardens. It was absolutely beautiful, in spite of the rain! The ceremony was delayed for only a few minutes until the clouds opened up and the rain stopped just long enough for the sweet marriage of Rachel and Craig. As the pastor was announcing them “Man and Wife” the sprinkles became drops and the tears turned into laughter. The rain was somewhat of a relief from the steamy heat of Florida and the guests didn’t seem to mind. The rest of the evening was spent enjoying a fabulous meal, eating cake, dancing the night away and ending with a fabulous Bubble exit!

Last week I met up with the Viratas again in Jarbo Park. The 1st attempt at this family session was a bust because not everyone was feeling well…but this day the whole family was in great spirits and fever free! It was a beautiful sunny day and sweltering as usual but we had a good time with karate moves, silly faces and wrestling….. how much more fun can one have?!
